Citrus County's library system is joining libraries across the nation observing September as Library Card Sign-up Month.

In keeping with that, Gov. Charlie Crist has proclaimed September as Literacy Month in the state of Florida.

The Florida Literacy Coalition recently recognized Citrus County resident Cherie Byrnes with an Outstanding Literacy Volunteer Award for her extraordinary efforts and commitment to adult and family literacy.

The award was presented at a special banquet held during the annual Florida Literacy Conference in Captiva, Fla.

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners recently proclaimed May as Friends of the Library Month.

The aim of the proclamation is to show appreciation for the continuing crucial contributions the Friends groups have been making to the county library system.

The Citrus County Library System (CCLS) recently updated the Board of County Commissioners about the progress of the Adult Literacy Education Program.

Those who were there to celebrate the success of the program so far are shown in the photo at right.

Copies of his book “Gary Burghoff: To M*A*S*H and Back: My Life in Poems and Songs" will be available for sale and autographing. Seating is limited to 77.
