VA seeks $125 billion for veterans in 2011

WASHINGTON (AFRNS) -- To expand health care to a record-number of veterans, reduce the number of homeless Veterans and process a dramatically increased number of new disability compensation claims, a $125 billion budget is proposed next year for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Postal service to issue sailor stamps on Thursday

On Thursday, the U.S. Postal Service will issue "Distinguished Sailors stamps" to honor four sailors who served with bravery and distinction during the 20th century.
They are William S. Sims, Arleigh A. Burke , John McCloy and Doris Miller.

Another Hero’s welcome was held on Jan. 15 at the Crystal River American Legion Post 4155.
Local veterans showed up to welcome back Sgt. Jordan Bush home from a long tour of duty in Iraq.

On Dec. 23, another Hero’s welcome was held at the Floral City VFW Post 7122.
Local Veterans showed up to welcome back Capt. Jamie Tyson home from the ongoing fight on the Global War on Terrorism.

DAV Chapter 70 is conducting a fund raising drive to raise $25,000 for a new van to transport local veterans to their appointments at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville.

The American Legion has been running its oratorical contests in area high schools since 1938.
On Dec. 12, American Legion Post 155 and Post 225 held their American Legion Oratorical contests at American Legion Post 155.
