In this day of high patriotism, one has to wonder why thieves want to steal.

As Commander of the Dunnellon VFW Post 7991 located at 3107 W. Dunnellon Road (County Road 488), it is so very hard to fathom why theives want to steal our "Breakfast" signs that we display for only three days twice a month to advertise our super breakfast.

We have had 8 signs stolen in the past two months.

We thank everyone in the community for their support in making our Haunted Tram Rides event a big success. This is the sixth year the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park has held this event and the attendance surpassed that of the five previous years.

As we get back into the swing of school and homework, so are we gearing up for Girl Scouts.

Many of the schools in the counties are holding roundups to recruit Girls and volunteers.

There are many great reasons to belong to the American Legion family, but I can think of no greater purpose than to support our hospitalized heroes.

We would like to express our appreciation for the overly generous presentation of 197 backpacks filled with school supplies for our students.

The STARS group of the Springs Presbyterian Church donated these essential items. They are not only necessary for school success but will also bring a smile to our children’s faces.

It has been my personal pleasure to have been the Commanding Officer of the Manatee Division Sea Cadets since its inception in August 2006.

I will be stepping down in September and joining the Regional Staff for other duties.

The CCBA Public Relations Committee outdid themselves again this year.

Its Building Supplies for Education Stuffed Backpack Drive helped more than 250 children with backpacks stuffed with school supplies.

The FRA is an organization of more than 100,000 active duty and retired Navy, Marine and Coast Guard enlisted personnel. They belong to one of 294 branches worldwide or the membership-at-large roll.
