Travolta movie screening to benefit CFCC, community organizations

OCALA - Tickets go on sale today for a John Travolta movie screening and fundraiser that will benefit Central Florida Community College and other community organizations.

The Jett Travolta Endowed Memorial Scholarship will be established at the CFCC Foundation with a portion of proceeds from the benefit, which will feature Travolta’s new film, “From Paris With Love.”

CFCC commencement set for Dec. 11 in Ocala

OCALA - Central Florida Community College will hold its fall 2009 commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ocala, 2801 S.E. Maricamp Road.

Dr. Kenneth Ford, founder and CEO of the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, will give the commencement address.

CRYSTAL RIVER - Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center and Central Florida Community College recently entered a five-year gift agreement in which the hospital will contribute a total of $50,000 to CFCC Citrus Campus educational and program needs.

CFCC settles on new name: College of Central Florida

OCALA - Central Florida Community College is one step closer to getting a new name.

The CFCC District Board of Trustees approved the name College of Central Florida at their Tuesday meeting.

Other names recommended to the board were: Central Florida State College, Florida American College and State College of Central Florida.

CFCC sets holiday hours

Central Florida Community College will close for midyear break at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, and will reopen Monday, Jan. 4, at 8 a.m.

Classes begin Wednesday, Jan. 6. Some offices will have limited operations during the break to assist students. Offices are located in the CFCC Bryant Student Union, 3001 S.W. College Road, unless otherwise indicated.

LECANTO - Central Florida Community College presented leadership awards to 30 area high school and college students on Nov. 19 for completing LEAPS - Leadership, Ethics and Public Service.

The leadership program is in its third year and was co-sponsored this year by the CFCC Institute for Community Advancement and the Citrus County School Board.

CFCC announces interim director for Levy Center

CHIEFLAND - Central Florida Community College has announced that Dr. Susan Chappell will serve as the interim director of the CFCC Levy Center in Chiefland.

Chappell retired from Florida State College at Jacksonville about 18 months ago, where she had most recently served as executive director of the FSCJ Foundation.

LECANTO - Central Florida Community College offers basic motorcycle courses in cooperation with the Motorcycle Training Institute, now at a reduced price of $225.

The Motorcycle Basic Rider Course is a research-based and action-oriented curriculum designed to teach beginning motorcyclists of all ages the physical and mental skills necessary to ride safely on the street.

OCALA - Central Florida Community College will host Dr. Gary R. Mormino, author of "Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams: A Social History of Modern Florida" on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The presentation is free and begins at 6 p.m. in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 110, at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.
