A Citrus County Detention Facility volunteer is among one of 12 volunteers named in the Corrections Corporation of America’s 2010 Pete Spackman Volunteer of the Year Award.
According to a CCA news release, that worker is Jean Gould, who works at the Lecanto facility.
The CCA says the winners, selected from among dozens of nominees from CCA facilities across the country, are being recognized for their long-term volunteerism, success in recruiting other volunteers and assistance with inmate rehabilitation programs in areas such as reading, parenting, spiritual support and job readiness.
Other recipients of this year’s Volunteer of the Year Award are:
- Father Larry Bernard – Cibola County Correctional Center (Milan, New Mexico)
- Clarence “C.G.” Collins – Lee Adjustment Center (Beattyville, Ky.)
- Suzie Crocker – Leavenworth Detention Center (Leavenworth, Kan.)
- Bud Hildebrand – North Forth Correctional Facility (Sayre, Okla.)
- Maria Marin – Florence Correctional Center (Florence, Ariz.)
- Rodger Dale Monette – San Diego Correctional Facility (San Diego, Calif.)
- Rosita Robertson – North Georgia Detention Center (Gainesville, Ga.)

- Margaret Snell – New Mexico Women’s Correctional Facility (Grants, New Mexico)
- Cody Stewart – Marion County Jail II (Indianapolis, Ind.)
- Minister Gary Toole – McRae Correctional Facility (McRae, Ga.)
“These devoted local volunteers perform a great service in contributing their time to the incarcerated,” said Dennis Bradby, CCA vice president, Inmate Programs.
“Volunteers at CCA correctional facilities play an important supporting role in sobriety programs, faith-based efforts, literacy outreach and career preparation. They are a wonderful complement to the rehabilitation resources and services provided by CCA to inmates.”
