Commission, constitutional officers meet to begin budget planning
The Citrus County Commission met with the county’s five constitutional officers on Tuesday to begin early planning for the 2010-11 fiscal year budget cycle.
Fire truck tips over onto side on CR 491
A Citrus County fire truck ended up on its side today while traveling down County Road 491 at about 3:30 p.m.
There were two volunteer firefighters from the Beverly Hills fire station aboard the truck at the time of the accident. Neither was injured.
Wanted: Small dog that bit Crystal River man
Citrus County Animal Services is looking for a small dog that bit a Crystal River man on Jan. 31.
The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. on North Peeler Point when the dog fell into the man's swimming pool, and bit the man as he was trying to help the dog.
County commission’s advisory group meets Feb. 12
The Citrus County Stakeholder’s Advisory Group (SAG) will meet at 1 p.m. on Feb. 12 in Room 166 at the Lecanto Government Building.
The agenda includes discussion of a number of issues, including:
- Administrative Regulations being reviewed by SAG
- A discussion of Duncan & Associates Impact Fee Draft Summary
- The county commission’s budget and goal-setting workshops
Update: SR 44 East, West now open to traffic
All lanes of State Road 44 are now completely open to all westbound and eastbound traffic.
The east and west section had been closed to traffic earlier in the day for several hours.
Bus overturns, 19 Army Guard soldiers injured
Nineteen U.S. Army soliders were injured in Clay County today when a bus in which they were riding overturned.
The bus was one of four headed for Camp Blanding Joint Training Center. The bus that overturned was carrying soliders based in Crystal River, part of the 690th Military Police Company.
Postal service to issue sailor stamps on Thursday

On Thursday, the U.S. Postal Service will issue "Distinguished Sailors stamps" to honor four sailors who served with bravery and distinction during the 20th century.
They are William S. Sims, Arleigh A. Burke , John McCloy and Doris Miller.
Sheriff's 10-43 Show focuses on Nature Coast EMS
The next edition of the Sheriff’s 10-43 show will air from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Boy Scouts celebrate centenniel next week
The Citrus County Commission has proclaimed the week of Feb. 7 through Feb. 13 as "Boy Scouts of America Centennial Week" in Citrus County.
The proclamation was made in honor of the 100-year anniversary of Boy Scouts.
