A 38-year-old Homosassa man is facing robbery and battery on an elderly man after the Jan. 31 invasion of the home of a 90-year-old man, also of Homosassa.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has arrested Shane J. McGlone, 6659 W. Park Drive in Homosassa, in connection with that robbery.

According to the arrest report, McGlone is said to have broken into the man's home, punched him in the face several times and took the victim's belongings. Deoputies responding to the robbery saw several lacerations to the victim's face and arms.

The man told deputies that his assailant demanded he show him where his wallet was, but apparently couldn't do it fast enough for the suspect, the arrest report says. That's when McGlone is said to have begun striking the victims in the face and then put the old man in a headlock, the victim said, and continued punching him.

McGlone is then accused of taking the elderly man into another bedroom and demanded the victim show him where the safe was. McGlone is said to have pried open the small safe, took several unknown items from inside it and left the man's home.

The elderly man's telephone wasn't working, so he drove to get help to a Circle K gas station on West Cardinal at U.S. 19, where he asked a clerk to call 911.

McClone was subsequently spotted on video footage at another convenience store, where the clerk told an investigating deputy that several customers had said that McGlone committed the robbery. She also identified the man on the video as McGlone.

A neighbor of McGlone later told a deputy that McGlone had robbed the old man, and that he had seen McGlone burning the clothing he had worn in the robbery in a wheelbarrow in his back yard.

Later, while talking to McGlone about an unrelated crime, deputies discovered McGlone had an open warrant out of Hernando County, and McGlone was arrested.

The victim later told deputies that he was 100 percent sure McGlone was the person who had robbed and beaten him.

McGlone was charged with home invasion and battery on an elderly person. Bond was set at none.
