Schools superintendent's son arrested on Saturday

An Inverness man was arrested Jan. 3 and charged with domestic battery, which in his case, was a felony charge.
That man is Dennis Gene Himmel, 22, son of Citrus County Superintendent of Schools Sandra Himmel.
Puppy saved after being hit, needs a home

An 8-week old puppy that was saved by a Good Samaritan last week in Floral City is in need of help. The puppy was hit on U.S. 41, and a passing motorist picked it up and called Citrus County Animal Services.
Veterans coalition sets Jan. 3 for yard sale

The Citrus County Veterans Coalition invites everyone to take part in the first monthly Veterans Benefit Yard Sale of 2009 from 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 3 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 550 U.S. 41 S. in Inverness.
North Croft, C.R. 486 projects ahead of schedule

The county's contractor for the County Road 486 and the North Croft Avenue projects, Hewitt Construction of Leesburg, is more than a half-year ahead of schedule, according to county officials.
County OKs initial direction for airport business park

Workers began badly needed renovations and repairs on Monday on the Homosassa public boat ramp and dock.
Lecanto argument leads to recovery of stolen dirt bikes

An argument between a man and his girlfriend resulted in the recovery Saturday of two dirt bikes reported stolen out of Volusia County.
Arrested was Jacob Michael Greene, 24, of 4541 Chirper Drive, Lecanto.
County looking for black dog that bit child in Beverly Hills

A child was bitten on Jan. 1 on Tyler Street in Beverly Hills by a black dog, possibly a Chow.
If you have any information about this dog, please call Citrus County Animal Services immediately at (352) 726-7660. This child may have to undergo rabies treatment if the dog is not located.
Homossassa public boat ramp closing for repairs Jan. 5

The county boat ramp in Homosassa is closing on Jan. 5 for critical repairs - which is good for a number of reasons: The ramp and dock are badly deteriorated, the ramp is the only public boat ramp on the Homosassa River and it is heavily used.

The Fire Rescue Division is recruiting volunteer firefighters, and it has four new advertisements on billboards around Citrus County showing off some of the county’s finest.

Missing Virginia man found

A man who was visiting friends in Beverly Hills, and then reported missing, has been found.
No other details are available at this time.
On Dec. 16, 28-year-old Lacey Biggs, of West Virginia, left a friend’s house in Beverly Hills and had not been seen or heard from since. Biggs had packed his belongings and left the residence on foot heading south on County Road 491.
Beverly Hills woman charged with sexual battery

A 22-year-old Beverly Hills woman was arrested today and charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a 15-year-old boy.
Arrested was Rebecca Parsons, 3166 N. Buckhorn Drive, Beverly Hills.
According to the arrest report, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office received an allegation on Dec. 30 that Parsons had sex with the victim at her home, and that the victim was under 16 years of age.

Crystal River readies for Jan. 10-11 Manatee Festival

The Florida Manatee Festival will blow into town Jan. 10-11, 2009 in downtown Crystal River along Citrus Avenue.

Fire Rescue warns of fund-raising scam

The Citrus County Fire Rescue Division is warning anyone who gets a call from someone purporting to be raising funds for the Beverly Hills Volunteer Fire Department that neither the volunteers nor officials from Fire Rescue are raising funds via telephone calls.
Progress Energy seeks license renewal for CR nuclear plant

Progress Energy has submitted a license renewal application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), requesting 20 additional years of operation for its Crystal River Nuclear Plant.
