The Division of Forestry will be conducting a 1,200-acre prescription burn today on the Citrus Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest.
This is a managed burn to reduce forest land hazardous fuels, and to restore wildlife habitat.
The tracts being treated are in the northeast area of the Citrus tract, so residents within the communities of Deerwood Acres, Country Side Estates and Inverness Highlands West may notice the smoke column. Forecast winds are from the northeast, so these residents should not be impacted by smoke but could notice the odor.
The burn is scheduled to start about 11 a.m. and conclude by 2 p.m.
