The Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Monday released the name of a man involved in an early morning domestic dispute that led to his death.
The 48-year-old man has been identified as Michael L. Wolff, 48, a Citrus County resident from the South Dunnellon area. Wolff had legally changed his name from Michael Rash at an earlier date.
Initially, Citrus County deputies responded to an address north of County 39 (outside of the Citrus Springs area) at about 5:47 a.m. When they arrived on scene, Wolff opened fire, and a pursuit followed.
Wolff, who was driving a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck, fired multiple shots at deputies during the pursuit; and although vehicles were damaged, no deputies were injured. Wolff also fired several shots at a Marion County school bus. No children were on board, and the driver was uninjured.
Wolff was shot and killed during the incident.
Wolff's criminal history includes battery, larceny and resisting a law enforcement officer in South Florida, plus a battery and Violation of Parole arrest (on an active Marion County warrant) in Citrus County.
According to standard operating procedure, the two CCSO deputies involved in the shooting death of Wolff have been placed on administrative leave without loss of pay. They are Deputy Juan Berrios and Sgt. Ryan Glaze.
Berrios, 32, joined the Sheriff's Office as a road patrol deputy in February 2006. Glaze, 33, was hired in July 2000 as a road patrol deputy. He joined the agency's K-9 Unit in April 2002, and became team leader in October 2007, with the rank of corporal. Glaze was promoted to a road patrol sergeant in January 2008.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is continuing its independent assessment of the officer-involved shooting at this time.
