The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident in Inverness on Saturday morning involving a bicyclist and a pickup truck.
The incident occurred at 11:33 a.m. at the intersection of Eden Drive and South Florida Avenue (South U.S. Highway 41).
According to a preliminary investigation, Shari Wayne, 40, of Citrus Springs was driving a white 2010 Toyota pickup northbound on U.S. 41. She stopped for the light at the intersection, and when the light turned green, she proceeded, striking a 57-year-old Inverness man who was crossing U.S. 41 (heading toward Old Floral City Road) on his bicycle.
The seriously injured man was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa for treatment.
Wayne was transported to Citrus Memorial in Inverness for medical evaluation.
No citations have been issued at this time; however, the investigation is continuing.
Deputies are still attempting to notify the man’s family about the injuries he sustained.
